Who would ever think a movie about a Mattel doll would be so impactful? Yet here we are. Funny, great musical numbers, imaginative in every respect, and multi-faceted. Director Greta Gerwig is probably one of the only people who could have made this the strong showing, perhaps even great showing, that it is.

"The Sound of Music" is a work of epic proportions, offering nothing less than a sprawling saga of resilience in the face of tyranny intertwined with a poignant testament to the importance of following one's heart. Along the way, we are embraced by songs which are truly striking in their memorability and resonance, perfectly supplementing a theme of courage that slowly grows and swells across a running time that affectionately includes all of the small moments needed for the weaving of its enduring spell over us. "The Sound of Music" charms us with its passionate spirit, leaving us reeling with the image of the majestic Austrian hillsides.

I'm pretty sure that, if there's a bad review here for this film, it's from a person who just didn't understand it. I get that. Many people don't like to be jolted from being scared crapless to "oh, I have to do some thinking here." And that's what separates this sci-fi film from most others. Yes, there's very little dialogue in the movie, but you didn't need much dialogue. And as far as special effects are concerned, this was the absolute best at depicting those alien grays and all of their friends creeping around the corners of your home and touching the bed you sleep in. It hits home to all of us. All-in-all, 90 minutes very well spent watching this on our 150" screen in our theater room. You just won't get the same effect watching this on anything smaller. And when a film has you looking over your shoulder for the next day or two afterwards, you know it has made an impact on you. Great entertainment - Happy Halloween!

Alfonso Cuaron delivers a pretty intense thriller as two astronauts played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are desperate to find their way back into their shuttle when an unexpected event leaves them stranded. Gravity is an epic thrill ride that starts and never ends. I have not felt continued tension like this film in some time. The entire movie is so isolated and desperate, it is incredibly immersive. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The script is a bit rough at times, a large portion of the dialogue does not seem realistic and can come off as corny, especially with George Clooney's character. Overall, it is short, face paced, thrilling and seeing it in 3D was breathtaking. I would highly recommend it!
